ESRI report confirms that the place we live in impacts our mental health
Greta Mohan of the ESRI contributing to RTE’s Brainstorm explains the linkages between our perceived mental health and where we live.
According to recent research on Irish neighbourhoods, positive attitudes towards safety, service provision, and cleanliness are strongly linked to improved mental health. The findings of the RTE Brainstorm report provide valuable evidence to support the implementation of comprehensive policies and investments in communities. This includes initiatives such as social groups, crime prevention measures, safety protocols, the development of open spaces, and improved public transportation, all of which have been shown to enhance the mental health and overall well-being of the Irish population.
This study further highlight’s the need to consider these findings when making plans or decisions and investments that will contribute to the betterment of Irish communities and the mental health of their residents.
